Garden 7 – Ethereal

Gardener: Susan Bath
954 Forest Hills Drive, North Vancouver

“I would describe my garden as whimsical. I have created it myself over 25 years for the love of flowers and trees. I don’t use any chemicals. My knowledge is hands on rather than book learned. Oh…..and there is that small detail of over 75 chandeliers.”

"I am an illustrator, day dreamer, and late bloomer who makes colourful pictures in response to being raised in a gray rainy city showing the vibrancy that exists behind the gray. As an artist I am inspired by wholehearted sweetness, amusing contradictions, and the underrated beauty of the mundane and everyday. I like to think about the wildness of the world which lives within us too, and try to capture the contradictions we face as being both loving and destructive animals. I use vibrant colour and movement of shape to evoke humour, playfulness, absurdity, and love, hinting at our daily contradictions. I believe in nuance and life within the gray area. We tell stories to try to sort out the mess, to decipher the undecipherable, and it's wholly beautiful."

I am a mixed media artist working in both dry and wet mediums. My work allows me to interact with alternate realities and our own; bringing a part of these worlds into form on our side of existence. The concepts stemming from this interest of worlds include; dystopian futures, alternate realities, and mythologies as fiction and non-fiction. Drawing from the worlds I’ve learned about through a multitude of forms; I use and bring these narratives into my body of work. I work part time at my local art gallery and spend the majority of my time pursing my passion. I am always looking for opportunities to learn more and am grateful for every chance given.
