This course offers an introduction to video editing with a focus on using found footage (no new filming required!) for making video collages. Students will learn the fundamentals of Adobe Premiere Pro in order to create at least one video artwork.
The videos that we’re going to make in this program will be “friends and family” themed, which means students can either make a scrapbook using old videos of family and friends, or they can make a video for a family member or friend using any footage they can find that reminds them of that person (or a combination of the two). The end result will be a video collage, as weird or normal as you like, that you can share with loved ones or just hold onto for yourself as a reminder of them.
No previous experience with Adobe Premiere Pro is necessary, but participants should be comfortable working with computer-based media, and have an understanding of how to transfer video and audio files onto their computer. This course is appropriate for those who are confident working with computers but have never used a video editing software, or who have previously made videos using basic software such as iMovie or Final Cut, and are interested in taking their videos to the next level.
Registration is per household.

- Adobe Premiere Pro video editing software
- A Computer that can smoothly run Adobe Premiere Pro. Just about any computer from the last few years should work fine, though video editing can demand a lot from your computer so you may want to check that it will be able to handle it smoothly (you want to avoid the dreaded spinning wheel!). Below are the specific recommendations:
|Processor CPU||Intel 6th generation or higher||Core i7-8700K (for a single video card GPU)
Core i9-7900X or Core i9-7940X (for multiple video card GPUs)
|Video Card GPU||32-bit||Quadro or GeForce card for enhanced performance|
64GB (If you’re working with higher-caliber footage and multiple RAM heavy programs)
|Storage||4GB (for the actual program)||As much space as you need to store your project on your local hard drive,
preferably with a second local hard drive dedicated to storing the files
- I recommend working off an external hard drive to keep the storage of all video and sound files off the computer and keep things running smoother. Not mandatory but recommended.
