Drama 1001 investigates the fundamentals of acting and improv. Starting with a foundation of focus-building, listening, and observation exercises, this course will progress towards advanced creative and collaborative exercises with presentations to the group. Students explore different forms of storytelling through expressive movement and dance, short improvised and semi-improvised scenes, verbal narration, or spoken word poetry. Skills of public presentation, and the principles of good theatre performance are mastered alongside the principles of good audience etiquette (respect, active listening). The importance of teamwork and adaptability is emphasized through group exercises and performance.
