In Allegory of our Seas, textile artist Diane Roy uses a variety of techniques including crocheting, knotting, twisting and weaving to create sculptures that explore the awe-inspiring beauty of our oceans and the curious creatures that inhabit our waters. Through the use of organic and recycled materials, Diane has created a marine metaphor to convey her concern for the fate of the world and all of its creatures.
Diane will be at the City Atrium Gallery on June 27 from 12:15 -12:45 to talk about the inspiration behind her work.
Diane Roy grew up in Abitibi-Temiscamingue, Quebec. After moving to Vancouver in 1986 the beauty of Western Canada’s landscape and ocean became significant inspiration for her work in fibre art. She holds a degree in Fine Arts and Education from the University of Quebec in Chicoutimi. Roy has been exhibited internationally in France, Spain, Japan and Morocco.
