Art in the Park 2018
November 6 , 2019 - January 13, 2020
North Vancouver District Public Library

Presented in partnership with Parks Canada.

Since 2008, The Art in the Park Programme has been connecting people to Glacier National Park through art. Parks Canada, the Revelstoke Visual Arts Society (RVAS) and the Alpine Club of Canada are proud partners in the 2018 program. A group of artists spend four nights in a rustic cabin setting in the Alpine Club of Canada A.O. Wheeler Hut in Glacier National Park, exploring, photographing, sketching and, depending on their medium, producing works of art.

Parks Canada’s goal is to build broader awareness of the rich natural and cultural heritage of Glacier National Park and its value to Canadians. By creating work from their experiences in the park, artists can foster a sense of connection to this special place. Through artists’ participation, Parks Canada hopes to expand the way the park is seen by local residents, staff, visitors and audiences beyond park boundaries.

Canada’s national parks and national historic sites enable Canadians to experience their rich history and natural heritage in a special way. The Art in the Park program in Glacier National Park invites artists to immerse themselves in grandeur and intricacies of sub-alpine meadows, thundering creeks, meandering trails and lush rainforest.

The resulting artwork reveals meanings and relationships about Canada’s natural and cultural heritage and provides the viewer with a deep impression of and a sense of connection to these special places. The Art in the Park travelling exhibition will extend this connection to urban audiences across the country.

Parks Canada is interested in partnering with galleries and exhibition spaces across Canada to allow more Canadians to engage with these awe-inspiring places.
