North Van Arts invites visual artists to participate in the annual juried intake for the Art Rental Program 2025.
The Art Rental program promotes visual arts in our community by making the work of local artists available for display in homes, offices, and film and television production sets by providing individuals and businesses with an affordable and flexible way to enjoy original 2-dimensional artworks including paintings, photography and mixed media works. Not only does the program make artwork more accessible to the community, but it also generates revenue and exposure for individual artists through renting their work to our diverse clientele.
The Art Rental program plays a key part in promoting and supporting local visual artists. It also plays a key part in supporting North Van Arts ongoing efforts to providing affordable workshops, programs and events for the North Shore community to enjoy.
All administrative fees taken for participation in the program go back into the organisation, acting as a fundraising initiative for our charity work.
Read the Submission Guidelines below then click the appropriate APPLY button to access a Submission Form.
How it Works
- Clients have the unique opportunity to “try out” artwork in their homes and offices that they may later purchase.
- Artwork rental fees are based on the price of the artwork as set by the artist and rental clients are invoiced on a monthly basis.
- As and when work is rented, royalties will be paid to each artist semi-annually (less a 30% administration fee).
- If a client chooses to purchase artwork from the collection the artist will receive the sale price for the artwork (less a 30% administration fee).
How to Apply
- Artists that are interested in applying to participate in the Art Rental Program should read the following guidelines below before submitting an application form.
Important Dates
- Monday, December 2 at 5:00 pm: Online submission deadline
- January 22, 2025: Artists notified of results
- January 24 to February 15, 2025: Artists who have work accepted bring artworks to North Van Arts
Eligibility
- Artists must be a resident of the province of BC to submit to our Art Rental intake this year.
- Only 2-dimensional artworks including paintings, prints, photographs and mixed media works will be accepted.
- Artwork size must be at least 8” x 10” and no larger than 48” x 48”.
- Diptych or triptychs will not be accepted, nor may they be submitted as a single work.
- Artwork is frequently transported and handled so works must be durably constructed. We cannot accept pieces with high relief or fragile surfaces that may be prone to damage.
- Each artwork submitted must be accompanied by a photograph that accurately represents the work. Avoid the use of in-camera settings or image enhancement software tools.
- This year in order to address accessibility within the program, North Van Arts is waiving the jury fee for Indigenous Artists. If you identify as an Indigenous Artist, please use the ‘Indigenous Artists Apply Button’.
How the Work is Juried
- While our goal is to select a broad range of styles, subject matter, and techniques, there is no guarantee that every artist who submits will have their artwork selected for the program. The decision of the jury is final.
- North Van Arts’s Art Rental jury will review all submissions after the call has closed. Only online submissions are accepted. Adjudicators will select artworks from the submitted digital copy of each artwork.
- North Van Arts’s goal is to select artwork for the Art Rental collection that best serves our program’s clientele and is accessible to a commercial audience. Due to the high volume of submissions we receive, we are unable to give individual feedback.
Upon Acceptance
- Artists must become members or are already active members in good standing with North Van Arts. Prior membership does not influence the jury’s selections.
- Artists will receive a contract by email for each artwork accepted by the jury. Accepted artwork is contracted to the Art Rental Program for a minimum of one year.
- Artists will be emailed a link to an online appointment scheduler to book an available date/time to deliver their artwork to North Van Arts.
- To accommodate our hanging system, all works must be properly finished for hanging using wire and D-rings attached to the frame so that the hardware does not protrude, and the top of the piece does not lean excessively forward off the wall. No “teeth” fixtures or French cleats are permitted.
- North Van Arts does not provide insurance for artwork. Artists are responsible for insuring the artworks while in the gallery. Rental Clients assume responsibility for the artwork once artwork is in their possession.
- Selected artworks are to be delivered to the CityScape Community ArtSpace, 335 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver between Jan 22 – Feb 22, 2025.
- Artwork accepted into the Art Rental Program from this jury will be available for rent and sale starting with the Art Rental Show exhibition at CityScape Community ArtSpace on March 1, 2025.
