Throughout the year, North Van Arts seeks people to participate in the various art exhibitions and creative projects that we program on the North Shore. Please find more information about the typical calls that artists, art instructors, and community members can apply to in the list below.

 

You Are Here Calendar - OPEN

North Van Arts has been producing the You Are Here calendar since 2017, as a fundraiser for the online culture map, the North Shore Culture Compass. This calendar tells the story of the region through artistically rendered images of locations, places, or scenes that are recognizably in North Vancouver or West Vancouver, on part of the territories of the Squamish Nation and Tsleil-Waututh Nation. By submitting your art, you add your voice to this story, and inspire people to imagine that You Are Here

CityScape Community ArtSpace Gallery - Figures & Faces Artist Call open

North Van Arts holds various juried open calls for art and exhibitions at CityScape Community Artspace throughout the year. We are currently accepting submissions for a Members Exhibition, Figures and Faces.

From Egyptian funerary portraits to contemporary photography, art has reimagined human form since time immemorial. Figures and Faces is a survey which will explore the dynamic and varied practices of local artists depicting and representing the body.
For this exhibition, CityScape gallery will be showcasing a mix of 2D and 3D figurative artwork exploring human form, portraiture and gesture.

North Shore Art Crawl -Call OPEN

North Shore Art Crawl are Oct 3-5, 2025.

Now in its fifteenth year, the North Shore Art Crawl is an annual celebration of local creativity and artistic talent. This free community event invites the public to explore a vibrant mix of galleries, studios, community centres, art schools, and local businesses across the North Shore. 

All North Shore Art Crawl participants must be active members of North Van Arts.

There are 2 steps for Artists with Studio/Gallery space. Pay for North Shore Art Crawl registration and fill out the Registration Form.

  • Early Bird – $70 – Closes on Friday, June 6 at 3pm (NEW Deadline)
  • Regular – $90 – Closes on Friday, July 4 
  • Underrepresented & Emerging Artists*- $60  – Closes on Friday, July 4

Artists seeking a Host Venue complete this Registration Form by Monday, June 16, 2025. Payment will be taken once paired with a venue.

Note: Completing the Registration Form is required so we can gather accurate information for marketing materials. Please be prepared with a polished biography or artist statement (written in third person, 30 words or fewer) and high-quality photos of your work.

 

 

Arts in the Garden

Arts in the Garden celebrates the intersection between artistic practices and the natural world. Each year, musicians, visual artists and performers fill outdoor spaces with their imagination and creativity. Through play, creativity, learning, and engagement, this event invites the community to reflect on their relationship to the land and to place and hopes to inspire us to care for the natural world and for all those sharing the land with us. Arts in the Garden takes place June 14 & 15, 2025 this year.

Submissions are usually open from January to mid-February.

Art Rental Program -Call Closed
Art Rental promotes the appreciation of visual arts in our community by making the work of local artists available for display in homes, offices and film and television production sets while provides individuals and businesses with an affordable and flexible way to enjoy a wide range of quality, original two-dimensional works including paintings, photography and mixed media works.

Anonymous Art Show -Call Closed
Every year since 2003, the Anonymous Art Show exhibits over 600 artworks on 8” x 8” canvases, from emerging and established artists in our CityScape Community Artspace. Each artwork is $100 to purchase, and proceeds are split 50/50 between the artist and North Van Arts. Participating artists can choose to retain or donate the proceeds from each sold artwork to North Van Arts. This is a fun event and our biggest FUNdraiser of the year for our organization.

Pushing Boundaries

Pushing Boundaries is a biennial exhibition that features the artwork of emerging Indigenous artists. North Van Arts works with an Indigenous Guest Curator on developing a different theme and concept for the exhibition every two years.

The next call for Indigenous Curators will be open in the Spring of 2025.

Art in the community: District Foyer Gallery

North Van Arts holds juried open calls for two-dimensional and three-dimensional artworks from artists to display their work in the District Foyer Gallery (located in the District of North Vancouver’s municipal hall) throughout the year.

North Van Arts holds juried open calls for two-dimensional artworks from artists to display their work in the District Library Gallery (located in the Lynn Valley Library) throughout the year.
Call for Artist Instructors- CALL CLOSED

North Van Arts offers arts education through courses, workshops, and camps for all ages, interests, and abilities, with programs delivered in the winter and spring.

Calls for artist instructors are open each September for a month-long intake, with additional opportunities available throughout the year.
