Decades: A Retro Celebration

Decades, North Van Arts 50th Anniversary Fundraising Gala.

 

For one night only we transformed our gallery into a pop-up bar and immersive visual art experience inspired by the past 50 years. Decades is a celebration where you can indulge in site-specific light & video installation by Mieke Jay Bray, an immersive art gallery showcase in VR by Museum of Other Realities, spoken word performance by rising star Andrew Warner, a gastronomical tour of the past five decades by our friends at Served, live music, as well as your favourite hits from the past fifty years.

This is a once in a lifetime chance to revel in a contemporary take on the past half-century and support our organization. In addition to of the above, this jam-packed evening will feature the Decades Silent Auction where you can bid on a luxury Whistler getaway & cultural tour, limited edition artworks, and much more!

The ticket price includes all of the above with food, a cocktail on arrival, and celebratory toast. A cash bar will be open all night serving Wunderbar Kolsch and North Shore Pale Ale from Bridge Brewing Company as well as wine and non-alcoholic refreshments.

Light installation by Mieke Jay Bray
North Van Arts has commissioned Mieka Jay Bray to create an immersive light & video piece inspired by the past five decades, transforming our gallery into a mesmerizing installation, enveloping you as you dance the night away. Learn more about Mieke Jay Bray here.

 

 

 

Spoken word by Andrew Warner
The youngest poet to win a provincial and national spoken word poetry championship in the same year, we are excited to announce rising poetry star Andrew Warner will debut his latest work at Decades! Warner shared a stage with spoken word legend Shane Koyczan at the Vogue Theatre in April 2019, has published four collections of poetry, toured internationally, and created a cinematic masterpiece: A Love Letter To My Best Friend, published on Button Poetry, the world’s largest online channel for spoken word.

 

 

The Decades Silent Auction
Going, going, gone! Get your chance to bid at the Decades Silent Auction, offering once-in-a-lifetime tailored experiences including a private jazz performance by renowned musician Cory Weeds, a luxury cultural weekend with accommodation at Fairmont Château Whistler, a guided tour with Talasay Forest Hikes, limited edition artworks by esteemed local artists, and much, much more! The auction will be live from Sept, 3 at 1pm. Stay tuned! 

 

 

 

Jazz by The Indigo Trio
Bassist, vocalist and composer Sydney Tough will be joined by Francis Henson on guitar and Todd Stuart on drums. The Indigo Trio will play their favourite jazz standards influenced by Wes Montgomery and Oscar Peterson Trio.

Let your taste buds reminisce with a gastronomical tour of the past 50 years with a contemporary fusion of canapés, deserts, and sliders inspired by cuisine from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and 00’s! Enjoy a specially curated menu and delight in Devilled Eggs, Danish Blue Endives, Crème Brûlée, and other gastronomic classics.

 

 

 

The evening will begin with live music, then slide into your favourite hits from the last 50 years so you can dance the night away!
