Linda Robertson: The Other Story
December 5 - February 11
District Library Gallery
Artist reception: Saturday, January 19, 2 - 4pm

Linda Robertson’s prints fuse digital compositions and traditional printmaking methods.

“It is through the medium of printmaking, mixing traditional and non-traditional methods that I find I can express my artistic ideas.  My background in dance has often inspired my work and I enjoy taking the physical vocabulary of dancing, the classical storytelling of dance, and translating it to contemporary themes and times.

My starting point is often a photograph, an image which intrigues. For me, the creative process involves editing and layering; trying to reveal stories that may exist or might be imagined. Sometimes that image takes on a stage-set quality and occasionally there is a sense of covertly peeking or glancing through a window or door. What really interests me is the story beyond the obvious image.”

Born and educated in the U.K, Linda trained as a dancer before attending the West Surrey College of Art and Design to study textile design (print).

In 1974 Linda emigrated to Canada, settling first in Victoria, B.C. Following her move to North Vanvouver in 1980 Linda taught ballet in the community for many years, running a successful dancing school and raising her two children.

On retiring from teaching dance, Linda became a member of the Art Institute (Printmaking) at Capilano University, incorporating traditional printmaking methods with her digital compositions.  During her time at Capilano University, Linda participated in several Art Institute exhibitions, both in BC and overseas.

In 2007 Linda became a member of Nimbus Two, a non-profit artist collective, based in North Vancouver.
