Natasha Van Netten’s wire whales are dynamic, three-dimensional sculptural ‘drawings’. Each piece is unique, hand-made, and sculpted or ‘drawn’ freehand using black steel wire.
Van Netten’s work focuses primarily on whales. She collects scientific information translating the research she gathers into a visual language using ink, paint, wire, paper, embossing, ocean water, or whatever medium best suits her ideas. Van Netten is interested in the intersection between art and science, using visual art to gain a more personal understanding of Cetology (the study of whales).
