Pushing Boundaries Guest Curator

Pushing Boundaries is a biennial open-call exhibition to showcase and platform emerging local and national contemporary First Nations/Métis/Inuit, artists, makers and craftspeople. This exhibition is designed to celebrate contemporary Indigenous art practice, as well as those fusing contemporary and traditional creative techniques. Pushing Boundaries 2021 will be held at CityScape Community ArtSpace from Friday, October 8 – Saturday, November 20, 2021.

Job Description

North Van Arts would like to engage a First Nations/Métis/Inuit Guest Curator to co-curate Pushing Boundaries 2021 alongside North Van Arts. This position will work closely with North Van Arts’ Exhibitions Manager, undertaking artist research, community outreach, adjudication, artist liaison, promotion, and the curatorial display/presentation of Pushing Boundaries 2021.

North Van Arts is seeking art submissions for the You Are Here 2022 Calendar. The calendar tells the story of the region through artistically rendered images of locations, places, or scenes that are recognizably in North Vancouver or West Vancouver. By submitting your art, you are adding your voice to this story.

As a fundraiser for the North Shore Culture Compass, artists are not paid for the use of their image. No jury fees are required for submission. North Van Arts and select partners present exhibitions of the original art. Artists receive 70% of any art sales. North Van Arts will produce 5″ x 7″ art cards of the images, sharing 50% of sales profits with the artist. North Van Arts will also produce a StoryMap of all included art.

Deadline for submission:  Sunday, May 2, 2021 at midnight.

North Shore residency or North Van Arts membership not required.

Arts Education Assistant (Summer Position)

This summer position will assist in the planning, organization, administration, promotion, and facilitation of arts education programmes for children 6-11 years old in July and August. Through Camp Creative, we offer arts instruction and engagement opportunities for young people in a variety of artistic disciplines including visual arts, drama, writing, and movement. Classes are developed and delivered by professional artist instructors with small class sizes to ensure a positive experience for all.
