Printmaking is the art of replication. Nature exists because it replicates. A seed and a woodcut plate live in parallel; they are born and are shaped by their environment. I conceive of my plates with a mind to encourage the chance of minor variations. For me, this makes each print more alive and authentic.
Nature dominates Rick’s imagery, structures, and concepts. These are gathered from his wanderings throughout the province as well as those surrounding his homes in Burnaby and on Gabriola Island.
