About the Artist

North Van Arts (formerly the North Vancouver Community Arts Council), was founded in 1969. We are a grassroots, social-profit, charitable cultural organization dedicated to maximizing the intrinsic value of the arts in all media. As well as curating exhibitions at CityScape Community Arts Space and three other community locations around North Vancouver, North Van Arts offers education programmes year round, presents cultural events, special projects, film series, and manages a popular Art Rental programme. Pushing Boundaries is our biennial open-call exhibition to showcase emerging local and national contemporary First Nations/Métis/Inuit artists, makers, and craftspeople. Curated by Sho Sho Esquiro, the theme of the 2023 exhibition is Our Home on Native Land which explores the issues threatening Indigenous sovereignty for the past hundreds of years since the 1400’s. We all need to have a greater understanding of the history that is not taught.
