About the Artist

Lori Bagneres is a contemporary artist living in North Vancouver. Through explorations in mixed media techniques using acrylic, image transfer, cold wax and oil & Venetian plaster, Lori’s focus on ephemeral nuances in the landscape, allow the viewer to feel place as much as see it. ‘“Motherland’ is my recent body of work exploring the expansive, pastoral landscapes of the French countryside. Much like the 19th century romantic painters of l’Ecole de Barbizon and their search for solace in nature, my approach is similar. From Provence in the south to Champagne in the north, these lands and their people carry with them an innate sense of history. And although these regions remain unique, somehow the French seem united by a sense of common identity and a shared love or pride of ‘their Motherland’. With every landscape in this new series, my hope is that it will trigger a flood of nostalgia for summer days long gone or not yet lived...and a deep ache for the viewers own motherland.
