About the Artist
Louise Nicholson is a passionate painter of the figure, wildlife and landscapes in oils and acrylics. She earned a B.Sc. from SFU and worked in the medical field. For the past 20 years, she has been pursuing art full-time. Inspired by the play of light and her love of movement in the figure, she explores the emotion behind both human and animal gesture with clarity of colour and confident brushwork. Her artworks of bears with people in peculiar places or situations are a mix of inspiration from stunning images snapped by photographers in “extravagantly wild places” and her own creativity and love for wildlife and nature.
Painting bears wasn’t always my passion, but after being commissioned to paint a portrait of one I felt a spark light up inside me that made me want to do more. I’ve continued to explore storylines within my paintings to further the connection between humans and the wildlife we share this planet with. Instead of us vs. them, I’d like to promote the idea of "we".
