About the Artist
Lucy Collings uses oil paints to produce her loose, representational paintings. She enjoys lively brushstrokes which give a vibrancy to any scene, and can never be confused with photography.
She particularly enjoys painting on location because of the special flavour and directness that painting under a time pressure achieves. After about two hours the light and shadows have changed significantly.
She grew up in South Africa and would sketch the horses on the family farm, and during school years carried on drawing and painting and eventually did a couple of years of University Fine Arts. However she realized that Fine Arts would probably not produce a successful living and changed to a BSc Degree.
Raising a family was a full-time enterprise so Lucy returned to painting when her kids were attending school. In Canada she has attended many work shops over the years and is a Life member of the North Shore Artists Guild and an Associate Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
