About the Artist
Mariana Sola was born in Argentina but lived in many countries and now she is established in the North Shore with her family and has her studio. She loves painting with acrylic enjoying the wide spectrum of possibilities this medium gives her. Layering, texturing, dripping paint, using different mediums to represent all the subjects inspired in different cultures, nature and family. She also enjoys enormously teaching every age and that triggers her new ideas and pushes Mariana further into new projects.
She loves pottery in any form, hand building and wheel, functional and sculpture.“I love the interactions between my fingers and the forming clay, I limit my use of tools because of that.”
Mariana’s pieces are mostly raku, the ancient Japanese technique for firing the pieces. She is captivated by the contrast of the fragility of the cracks and the strong radiance of the metallic colours.
