About the Artist

Shirley Claire Williams Prior to becoming a full time artist, Shirley’s career as an interior designer nurtured and developed her innate interest in the visual power of line, form, color and composition. These design fundamentals have naturally carried through in her shift from applied to fine arts, and influence her personal aesthetic and evolution as a painter. Constant and patient study of her surroundings and a keen dedication to learning by direct observation challenge her daily practice. Shirley participates in plein air painting competitions locally and travels regularly to learn from contemporary masters in both landscape and still life painting at workshops across the USA and Canada. Working primarily from life, she paints in oil, on location or from floral and still life vignettes set in her North Vancouver studio. Shirley was born in Montreal, Quebec, and currently resides in West Vancouver, BC
