Chandra Junck’s watercolour paintings explore space and depth, inspired by galactic imagery- nebulas, supernovas, the Milky Way. Her orbs feature many layers, textures, and rich colours, creating the illusion that the viewer is peering into a distant galaxy.
Further playing with the concept of space, the orb also functions as a container for hidden narratives, as each piece captures the artist’s personal experiences and emotions within a context of time. These ethereal landscapes blur the boundaries between tangible and abstract.
With a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies from the University of British Columbia, Chandra founded an educational platform for young children, Wee Creative Co., teaching them to bring their stories to life through a combination of play, learning, and stop motion animation. She has long approached her life and art practice with this same sense of curiosity and playfulness.
Chandra lives and works in North Vancouver, BC. When she is not in her home studio, you can find her enjoying the North Shore’s local food and culture scene, or spending time with her family.
