Dana Johnson is a Vancouver-born artist. She studied painting at Emily Carr University of Art and Design after a successful career in fashion design and teaching. Her love of European landscapes, history, historical costume and nature comes across in much of her work.
She paints with oil and acrylic. Her collage inspired oil paintings are colourful with geometric shapes. Fashion is depicted in the theme of deconstructing some objects and piecing shapes together to create an environment that represents how our thoughts can be disconnected and surroundings seem chaotic, but strength, beauty and resilience lies within.
Her Landscapes in oil are soft with loose brush strokes in a muted palette. The acrylic landscapes, with a focus on trees, are magical with glowing light. “I love the calm feeling that trees bring. They represent nature, beauty, strength, resilience and life.’’
She continues to explore new ideas and techniques and thrives on the creativity it unleashes. She has participated in numerous group shows and had gallery representation. She is an exhibiting member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. Her work can be seen in private and corporate collections in B.C., Alberta and Ontario.
