Eleanor Hannan

Fiber Artist and Embroidery

Eleanor Hannan received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg and has exhibited her artwork in group and solo shows across Canada, UK, and Europe for over thirty years.

Her visual art practice has included drawing (as an end in itself), painting, traditional fresco painting, sculptural figurative and portrait work in paper mache, costume design for theatre and dance, fiber arts and embroidery. Eleanor’s new work opens doors to new interlacing’s of painting and textiles.

For many years she taught workshops for artists in Photoshop. Eleanor has worked with inmates in BC prisons, as well as teaching at Capilano University, Emily Carr University, University of the Fraser Valley and Kwantlen Polytechnic University. She has taught for Shadbolt Center for the Arts since the early 90’s.   

She has collaborated with other artists and writers, including her long-time collaboration with writer Elizabeth Dancoes. She has had her artwork featured in several publications.

Eleanor has received grants from the Manitoba Arts Council and the BC Arts Council and has led hundreds of workshops in drawing, painting, textile arts and mixed media for schools, colleges, and universities. As well as new ventures into speaking about art and the textile arts.

She is also a certified Yoga teacher with 20 years teaching experience and a Certifier Integrative Energy Healing Practitioner 3 years in practice. Both these practices inform her work.
