About Arts Education

North Van Arts offers arts education in the form of courses, workshops, and camps programming for all ages, interests and abilities.

Elena Senatorova

Elena is a full-time visual artist based in West Vancouver who works mostly with oil medium, in
techniques from classical realism to contemporary impressionism, from fine glazing to heavy
brush strokes, and palette knife work.

Throughout her life, Elena has had the opportunity to reside in various parts of the globe.
Although she was born in Moscow, USSR, she spent her childhood in Beijing, China, and
eventually settled in Vancouver, Canada, in 2002.

Elena has consistently worked on honing her abilities and talents to create paintings that
capture the everyday experiences and transformations she observes, ranging from natural
scenery to human faces. She prefers to work from life, believing that photographic images fail to
do justice to colors and values and can only serve as a supplementary tool. Elena values
capturing the first impression of the object, scene, or moment, as well as the unique connection
she feels to it. “I also love to paint stilllifes & flowers. I grow my little garden of flowers which I
combine in the bouquets and paint from life. They tingle my color tastes and bring joy, especially
during the wet and dark winter months”- says Elena.
Elena is teaching oil painting classes at North Van Arts, Squamish Arts, and does private
lessons at home.
