Janet Strayer

Paintings in Acrylic, Oil, Mixed-Media

My art celebrates life in its variety, focusing on the vital intersection of worlds within and around us, the impact of imagination and memory, and the imperfect beauty of being human in a changing reality. It is inspired by experience and imagination, by cultural lore, nature, life-long travels, and by the sensual qualities of paint, colour, and movement.

I use a focused range of styles (click here), from Abstract-Expressive to unique Representations of Figures and Landscape. Underlying currents in my paintings are the inherent animism or vitality of all things and attention to moments of physical and psychological transformation.

I’m pleased to have my work in public and private collections across borders. It has been the focus of several solo shows and many group exhibitions, has won some awards, gained positive press review and appeared in books and media. You can see more here (click).

Trained as a fine-arts painter, lifespan developmental psychologist, and published author, I now live and work in Vancouver and Saturna Island, B.C., where my art studio is located. I also write online illustrated columns for Creative Life News.
