Karen earned a diploma in professional photography from the New York Institute of Photography in 2004. She continues to learn about photographic design, composition and technique by studying with acclaimed nature, fine art and landscape photographers as well as by experimentation and by pushing her creative boundaries. Karen regularly attends workshops in Canada and the USA and has been on photo expeditions to Africa, South America, Europe, Russia, the UK and the Middle East.
She has achieved four Accreditations from the Professional Photographers of Canada Association (PPOC) in following categories:
• Nature Photography 2011;
• Fine Art Photography 2012;
• Pictorial/Scenic Photography 2013;
• Botanical Photography 2016.
Karen won “Best in Class” in the Fine Art category at the 2012 National Print Salon Competition held during the PPOC Canadian Imaging Conference & Trade Show in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Subsequently, her award-winning photograph “Red Maple” is now part of the PPOC National Loan Collection.
Karen’s photographs “I Dream Of A Beach” (2013) and “Perhaps?” (2014) both received “Merit” at the annual PPOC Canadian Imaging Print Salon Competition.
Karen has exhibited her photography in galleries throughout the greater Vancouver area since 2008.
Karen has had two articles on her photography published in Nature Photographer Magazine in the USA – “Impressions of Nature” and “Maplewood Mudflats”.
