Leila Afshari has been an artist for almost 30 years, starting as a painter after embarking on her studies at Azad University in Tehran where she earned her BFA in painting.
She had several exhibits and published works in Iran before immigrating to Vancouver. Once in Vancouver, she found a new passion in ceramic figurative sculpting, and has been fortunate to have had several mentors in the art community who helped her develop her talent.
Leila particularly enjoys the 3-D nature of sculpting and the various ways of finishing her pieces, such as raku and smoke firing. Recently, to complement her sculptures, she has resumed doing figurative painting as well.
Leila works and teaches out of the Gleneagles studio, which has been very supportive of her and her passion for sculpting. Leila lives on the North Shore and when not at Gleneagles, can be found working and teaching in her home studio as well.
