Surnoor is an Indian born artist now living in Vancouver. He draws inspiration from the very life surrounding him. City, land, and people are reoccurring themes in his paintings. He is most passionate about painting ‘en plein air’ (painting outside from life) which has also won the artist recognition in plein air competitions around metro Vancouver. He secured grand prize in Paint on the Mountain in 2021 and a honorary mention in 2020 and has been a winner in master’s category at Grand Prix of Art held in Historic Brittania Shipyards in Richmond (2021,2022).
While being mostly self taught he has had the valuable guidance of senior artists throughout his journey. He credits his early mentors for steering him on the right path for artistic learning and he insists upon learning from our own mistakes and not being afraid of experimenting.
Surnoor has an Associate of Arts degree in Criminology from Douglas College. He is currently working with eminent Vancouver artist Charles van Sandwyk to take care of his art gallery in Gastown. He is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and exhibits periodically in group exhibitions in greater Vancouver.
